National Newborn week inaugurated in DH Bandipora.
Bandipora: – Medical Superintendent District Hospital Bandipora, Dr Bashir Ahmad on Tuesday inaugurated the National Newborn week with an aim to increase awareness of caring for premature and full-term babies in the neonatal period to reduce mortality rates.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Bashir said, we must ensure every child survives and thrives to reach their full potential, we must focus on improving care around the time of birth and the first week of life.
He said, The high rates of preventable death and poor health and well-being of newborns and children under the age of five are indicators of the uneven coverage of life-saving interventions and, more broadly, of inadequate social and economic development.
He emphasized on Health promotion, disease prevention services (such as vaccinations) and treatment of common childhood illnesses are essential if children are to thrive as well as survive.
The National Newborn week is celebrated allover India from 15-21 November and this year it was celebrated under theme “ensuring Quality equality and dignity for newborn care at every health facility and everywhere”.
