Srinagar, Oct 08, KDC: The residents of SD Colony Batmaloo, on Thursday, held a protest against the water scarcity in their area, news gathering wire service Kashmir Dot Com-(KDC) reported.

A large number of local women and children from Lane No. 7, 8 and 9, assembled on the main road outside the colony and blocked the traffic.

They were raising slogans against the Public Health Engineering Department, for the poor water supply in their area.

They said that their houses have been given the water connection, but there is no water supply running through those pipes, with the result, they have to fetch drinking water at 4 a.m in the morning, from nearby areas.

“Earlier they would give us water supply through tankers, but now that too has been stopped, with the result our lives have become hell for the want of drinking water,” said a protesting woman.

They requested the administration to look into their difficulty and put the water supply, through to their locality.

Meanwhile, the traffic remained suspended on the road for some time, which was later restored after the police authorities reached the spot and requested the protestors to call off their protest, assuring them that their problem will be taken up with PHE authorities and the problem they are facing will be addressed.
