Srinagar, Oct 21 (KNO): CPI (M) senior leader and former MLA Kulgam, M Y Tarigami Wednesday said the contractual lecturers hired by Higher Education Department (HED) for colleges in Kashmir division are without wages from the last four months.

“Despite serving the department for so many years, they are deprived of their monthly wages, thus causing great inconvenience to this teaching community, who are working in various degree colleges across the valley,” Tarigami said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said that the COVID-19 lockdown has turned their financial position from “bad to worse” and has led them and their family close to starvation.

“Some of these lecturers are single bread owners in their families; however, the delay in their salaries had forced them to borrow the money from friends and relatives to manage their monthly family expenses, by which they are facing a lot of hardships. We urge upon the administration to release their wages without further delay,” he said—(KNO)
