The government Thursday said term-end examination of 8th and 9th standard shall be conducted at school level for the current session in “face-to-face offline mode”.

The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in a notification said that the examination of class 8th and 9th was conducted by the erstwhile State Institute of Education (SIE) through District Institute of Education and Trainings (DIET’s) under the overall control and supervision of Directorate of School Education.

“In this context, as per the discussion held with the administrative Secretary, School Education Department, the T2 examination of class 8th and 9th shall be conducted at School Level for the current session in face-to-face offline mode with the prescribed modus operandi,” Director SCERT, Veena Pandita said.

Pandita said that the concerned Schools shall set the question papers.

“For uniform assessment of the students, the sample papers from T2 syllabus shall be prepared by the Educational Research, Survey and Assessment (ERSA) wing of SCERT and Curriculum Material Development and Evaluation (CMDE) wings of the concerned DIET as per the assessment scheme in vogue with a 40 percent choice to the students” she said.

The SCERT said that keeping in view their psyche, mental anxiety and prevailing Covid-19 pandemic, the sample papers shall be circulated among the concerned stakeholders.

“The concerned schools will follow the same pattern and will assess the students accordingly. By conducting the pen and paper assessment for these classes will not only help to check the learning levels of the students during the lockdown but will also avoid the negative effects of mass promotion,” reads the SCERT notification.

The examination shall be conducted by School Education Department through the concerned directorates by strictly following the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) issued by the government.

The notification states that the evaluation shall be done at complex head level and result compilation at DIET level in order to keep proper record of the student, “It has to be ensured that the focus of the assessment remain on the changes in the child’s learning and development over the period lockdown and it should also be assessed as to what extent learning outcome, have been achieved,” SCERT said.

SCERT also notified that the concerned DIET’s shall issue the achievement cards for the class 8th students depicting their grades.

“The Principal DIET’s shall meet out the expenditure on the result compilation and preparation of achievement cards of the students out of the available MSE Funds on this account as per the prescribed norms in practice,” it reads.

It was also mentioned that in respect of the private school students, actual expenses should be incurred on preparation and the same shall be worked out and charged from the private schools.
