Road blocked on both sides, large number of vehicles stranded

GANDERBAL, Sep 29: A massive landslide has severely disrupted traffic movement on 434 Kilometer long Srinagar-Leh highway since last evening.

A traffic police officer told Kashmir Despatch that the landslide occurred at India Gate Zojila along Srinagar-Leh highway due to which the road remained blocked since yesterday 7 Pm.

He said that the highway was completely blocked by the landslide, as a result vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the road.

Officials said the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) immediately pressed into service sophisticated machines and men to clear the road for the smooth movement of traffic.

DySp traffic Faheem Ali told Kashmir Despatch said traffic was suspended on Monday at around 6:50 Pm after massive landslides hit Zojila Pass near India Gate.

Meanwhile dozens of drivers stranded on this highway said that a large number of light motor vehicles and trucks have been stranded on the both sides of Zojila Pass due to the landslides which has caused immense incontinence to the travelers on this road.
